Greetings to all,

I am back from Uganda and the trip went extremely well. We are currently in the first phase of completing the formal trailer.  I would like to take the opportunity to update all of you who supported my life journey and project on the process thus far. We were able to get all the interviews we set out to get in this initial visit and worked pretty much the whole time except for a couple of days here and there. It was difficult for me to take in all the beauty and wonder as well as the devastation and struggle that is still present in tandem in my country of origin. There were places where time stood still and others that were totally alien to me due to new developments that had taken place. This was a truly incredible journey, bittersweet in some ways, which opened my eyes to things that I did not expect to see and experience, both good and bad. It changes my story a little…we will see…so stay tuned…

My intent post this initial visit is to refine the trailer from an editing perspective which entails pairing down approximately 300 photographs and logging over ten hours of video to complete a more topical and comprehensive five-minute trailer so as to court grants and additional financing so that I can return with a full production crew to complete my documentary journey. In light of current economic conditions which impact funding to the arts, any additional support for Closer to Home from friends, colleagues and others is warmly appreciated.

I would like to thank each of you especially for allowing me this first experience of Closer to Home. I am truly grateful and could not have made this incredible visit without the support of each individual involved. I hope to have a final trailer ready for view in a couple of months.

Thank you.

Barbara Kigozi
